When Words Don’t Cut It, Eat Food

you could actually see
the stars in
the cold Ohio sky
tonight, and it
reminded you of
the other day
driving home, with
the sun setting
hot and gold over
the snow-covered field
sky pitch blue
wind inciting films
of icy dust to
cross the street
before you
and the surface of
the whole earth moved
and you
felt like maybe
everything made sense
for once
without trying to.

it was a lot like that
beneath those
stars on
my way to
a local bar for
garlic wings
with my little brother
who just needed to
talk
and so did i
but we didn’t say much
and that was ok,
too.
