It’s Better to Live the Art You Love Than to Hang It on Some Wall

i still can’t believe you made that move, she said
looking right at me.
what move? i asked, confused.
the move all the way down here to Arizona.

and i guess
i didn’t realize
it
was
such a strange thing
but

art that
defies symmetry and
expectation
has
always intrigued
me
most
of all: becoming in its own way

something i never could.
i’ve always
thought
how i would
like to live that way.

when i quit
my job
i searched for another
in the area
for
three
days, then
quit that, too
threw
all my things in the
car
then moved 2,000 miles away.

and the sun shines brighter here
where none of the lines are parallel.
