It’s a Round Trip Any Way You Go

it’s been months now,
in a new place feeling less new,
everything once painted
the color of novel fading fast to leaden normal
but the fact is that you’ve made it,
are making it, will make it
as every day leaves you stranded to the next
while memories of the past mix with
longing for the future
and you, elastic, strung between:
some mornings find your fire,
others meet your tears.
so sometimes you’re surprised by
how capable you are,
and
sometimes
by just how fragile.
but mostly you’re just glad to be alive.
